From The Book

“Keep your eyes on the road!!!” I yelled at Jane Austen, who sat behind the steering wheel, as she swirled us back into our lane amidst the blaring horns of passing cars and screeching tires.
The fist slammed into my face and I flew across the backseat of the taxi cab that we have hijacked. My opponent attempted to open the passenger door by his side to get out of the moving vehicle. I slammed the butt of my gun into the back of his head. He yelped in pain and faced me with his fists ready, but froze at my barrel aiming at him.
“Matthew Shepard,” I demanded his attention as we continued our treacherous chase along Interstate 80 out of Laramie, Wyoming. “I am here to help you.”
“What do you want with me?” he asked as he rubbed the back of his head.
“You are in danger and we are here to save you.”
The bullets hit the rear of the car, we both ducked in the backseat as a wave of broken glass from the rear window descended over us.
“Who is shooting at us?” he sounded scared.
I peered over the backseat at a fast-approaching motorcycle. The visor on his helmet was open and I knew those gray eyes. Nema. The man destined to become my husband in about thirty years when he travels to my world’s past and meets me when I am 20 years old. Of course, he didn’t know that as he continued in his pursuit to kill us. Our hijacked cab was of no competition to his bike.
“Actually, they are shooting at you,” Jane corrected him as she sped up to lose our pursuer.
Nema brought the bike to the side of the car and aimed a gun at the passenger window where my new patient sat. I raised my barrel at Matthew’s head.
“Duck!!!” I yelled.
As soon as his head was out of the way, I shot through the window at Nema. The glass shattered and he slowed down his bike retreating behind us again. I knew I missed.
“Who is he?” Matthew asked as Jane was taking us on a section of I-80 that went over the Laramie River.
“He is absolutely nothing to me,” I replied, as I thought about Miranda and Rogers, before squeezing a few more shots at Nema through the opening that used to be a rear window.
“David actually really likes him,” Jane added. “He is a psycho killer assassin who has been after us and killed a couple of our friends. But David refuses to talk about his feelings.”
“You all need professional help!” Matthew informed us.
“Jane, shut up,” I snapped at her then turned back to him. “And I am a professional. I am a Social Worker.”
“And I am one of his patients,” Jane chimed in from the front. “However, I refuse to be sober. I think cocaine really enhances my reflexes. Just look at my driving. And this is my first time.”
At her words, he became more concerned and was about to say something when another bullet hit us.

Welcome to The Dangerous World of Social Work

Volume 3 of Dangerous Social Work edition by David Gardner Literature Fiction eBooks

Very, very funny and unpredictable. It is Sci-fi mixed with comedy, action and adventure. I've read all three volumes now and I wish I knew what was really happening. It's laugh out loud funny at times followed by moments of heartache. However, also surprisingly insightful. It's obvious that Gardner is a very observant watcher of the human condition and is just introspective enough to offer us genuine insight into the LGBT world. The volumes are nicely written and what becomes clear when reading this story is just how addictive it becomes. I am definitely looking forward to the next volumes.
